In 1937 Kees Andréa, father of the painter Pat Andréa, became the youngest ever member of the Pulchri Studio artists’ society, which marked the start of his painting career. He painted landscapes with animals and/or people, still lifes and female portraits in an Expressionist and poetic realist style. He was also a graphic designer and made designs for murals, mosaics and tapestries. Andréa was one of the leading artists of The Hague painters collective Verve (1951-1957) and a member of both De Realisten (1951-1960) and the Haagse Kunstkring (Hague art circle).
