For the talented, young deceased Erik Andriesse, nature was the biggest source of inspiration. Flowers, skulls and skeletons, animals and - after 1988 - marine animals were his main motives. He depicts them in a realistic or even abundant way, with love for detail. After 1990, apart from skeletons, lilies and amaryllises were among his favorite subjects. Andriesse was fascinated by these flowers for their expressive shape and color and he used them in countless versions; lithographs, watercolor, oil or acrylic on canvas, or a combination of these techniques.
