Jan van Anrooy was a true Dutch impressionist, who was mainly inspired by the flat, Dutch meadow land with its canals, flowering orchards and the beach and the sea. In a strong brushstroke and bright, pronounced colors he put his landscapes on the canvas. Van Anrooy changed places of residence many times. He lived and worked in Zaltbommel, Den Bosch, Zoutelande, Elst and The Hague and for a longer period of time in Deil near de Linge, Gelderland. He also lived in South Africa. He was educated at the famous School for Art, Technology and Craft in Den Bosch under the direction of the painter Huib Luns.
