Peter Bol did not learn art from a stranger: his father also painted. The expressionist painter was trained at the Akademie voor beeldende Kunsten St. Joost in Breda. Bol's works are characterized by light color combinations and a technique in which the structure of the thick layers of paint is still visible on the canvas (impasto). He mainly paints landscapes and (flower) still lifes. Peter Bol's colorful works seem to depict reality through the eyes of a child. He himself says: 'We experience the drama of the volatility of the moment and are moved by the fragile depiction of the individual beauty of things. What is commonplace in particular finds a reassessment'.
