The Belgian painter Francois Bossuet learned the artistry of Willem Jacob Herreyns at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. During a trip through Italy, Spain, Morocco and the Netherlands, he was inspired by everyday life in cities. He is also known for his cityscapes depicting market vendors, boat workers or laundresses. Bossuet's love for architecture can also be recognized in his work. He usually paints the buildings of a cityscape faithfully. Mainly his sense of perspective and correct lighting deserves praise. Besides being a painter, Bossuet was also an erudite man. He lectured at the Brussels academy and published essays, including on perspective.
