Léon Marie Constant Dansaert was born in Brussels and received his painting education at the studio of the genre painter Edouard Frère in Paris. He then settled in the French capital, where his depictions of everyday life and genre scenes in an 18th-century setting were particularly popular with the emerging bourgeoisie. The painter traveled extensively, including in Italy and Germany, and settled in Ecouen in 1882.
