The talented Elisabeth Haanen, who died young, learned to paint from her father, Casparis Haanen. She painted various subjects, in a romantic style: genre scenes, interiors, portraits and flower and fruit still lifes. Elisabeth Haanen was also a paper artist: around 1837 she cut more than a hundred portraits of artists. In 1838 she became a member of the Royal Academy in Amsterdam. Elisabeth Haanen belonged to an artistic family: she was the wife of Petrus Kiers, sister of Adriana Johanna Haanen, George Gilles Haanen and Remigius Adrianus Haanen, and mother of George Lourens Kiers and Catharina Isabella Kiers.
