Luite Klaver, son of a grocer from Hattem, received his first painting lessons from Jan Voerman Sr. Then from 1894 to 1897 he took lessons at the School voor Tekenleraren (School for Drawing Teachers) in Amsterdam. Klaver developed into a popular painter and lithographer. He also focused on photography, in which he reached a great height artistically. As a painter, his main subject was the nature around the Hanseatic city of Hattem, dominated by the IJssel and its floodplains. He also painted still lifes and flowers. The painter lived with his family on 't Olde Spyker, a 17th-century house located on the Molecaten estate. One of his two daughters, the writer Clare Lennart, described the house, the city and the family of painters in her book 'Weleer'(Formerly).
