Alfred Mailick is best known as a painter of romanticized impressionistic hunting scenes. He received his education at the academy in Dresden. He also painted landscapes in which there was no game to hunt, and he made nature studies of birds and insects. Mailick, who was called Meilick until 1906, also made a name for himself as a book illustrator and postcard designer. In the Haus Lawaczeck museum in Nieukerk, Germany, just across the border near Venlo, a room has been furnished with hunting pieces by Maileck. His son Erik followed in his father's footsteps and became known as a painter of realistic-impressionist animal paintings (hunting, game).
