As a boy, Henri Stacquet showed an exceptional artistic talent. During his career as a banker in Brussels, he took lessons in landscape painting for many years, among others with Franz Courtens and Hippolythe Bellanger. Through this latter teacher he was influenced by the landscape painting school of Tervueren: realistic impressionism with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and light. Stacquet initially painted the Flemish landscape, which soon expanded to beach and seascapes. He gives the best of himself in the watercolour. He paints the beaches and humid skies of the North Sea in fresh tones. In particular, his watercolours and gouaches by Katwijk are of great quality.
