Philip Pieter Windt

A fisherswoman from Scheveningen in the dunes
watercolour on paper 56.0 x 38.8 cm, signed l.r.

This work on paper was previously for sale.

Provenance: Koninklijke Verzamelingen, Paleis Noordeinde, inv.nr. 286; nalatenschap H.K.H. Prinses Juliana (1909-2004), Koningin der Nederlanden van 1948 tot 1980.

Philip Windt lived and worked all his life in The Hague. He was educated at the Hague Academy and then received a scholarship from King Willem III. It is possible that Willem III or his second wife, Queen Emma, acquired this watercolour. The artist was born in 1847 and thus belonged to the second heyday of the Hague School. The beach of Scheveningen with its bombs and fishermen was often a source of inspiration.
