biography of Georges Johannes Hoffmann

The painter Georges Johannes Hoffmann lived and worked in The Hague almost all his life. There he learned the art of painting from the romantic marine painter Louis Meijer, which resulted in an oeuvre that largely consists of seascapes, harbours, beaches with ships and rivers. In the 1870s, Hoffmann shared a studio on the Miss Idastraat with Willem Maris, Mauve, Blommers and Elchanon Verveer. During that time he was also influenced by the Hague School.
