biography of Guillaume Gustave Antoine Eberhard

The oeuvre of the painter Guillaume Eberhard includes flower still lifes, landscapes, portraits and cityscapes of Maastricht, the city where he lived and worked all his life. He received his artistic education at the Drawing Academy in Antwerp and then at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam (1903-1906). In 1910 he founded the Limburgse Kunstkring with nine other artists, among whom Rob Graafland and Herman Gouwe. He exhibited for a long time at their exhibitions and at those of De Onafhankelijken, De Larensche Kunsthandel and St. Lucas in Amsterdam. In general, Eberhard's work was strongly French-Belgian oriented and he was more of a conservative, elegant impressionist than an innovator.
