Formerly in the collection of the American art collector Charles Martignette (1950-2005), this gouache was used as the cover illustration of the paperback The Sex Twist by John Carver (Beacon Books no. 559F) in 1962. Martignette began buying oils and gouaches that were used as the basis for covers of and illustrations in American magazines, calendars and paperbacks in 1970, amassing a collection that spanned the golden age of American illustration and Pinup art, from around 1910 to the 1960s. With Louis K. Meisel he co-authored two monographs: The Great American Pin-Up and Gil Elvgren: All His Glamorous American Pin-Ups.
