Chris de Moor is considered part of the New Hague School. Until about 1945 he painted figuratively (impressionist and cubist), after that he mainly made abstract depictions in strong colours. In addition to being a painter, De Moor was also a graphic artist and designed murals and wall and glass paintings for many public buildings. From 1951 to 1964, De Moor was 'aesthetic advisor' to the PTT, in which context he also made a number of postage stamp designs. As a member of Verve (1956-57) and Fugare (1965-67), he strived for innovation in post-war visual art.
