Three kittens playing with a string of beads
pastel on paper laid down on painter's board 24.4 x 30.9 cm, signed l.r.
This work on paper was previously for sale.
Cornelis Raaphorst started out painting still lifes, flowers and landscapes, but later made a specialization out of playful kittens. He portrayed them in all their antics, surrounded by colourful draperies and precious objects. He was without doubt inspired by the works of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip, although his paintings bear a unique signature style.
