Provenance: kunsthandel W.M. Stam, Den Haag.

Eldina van Limburg Stirum, born as Eldina Mulier, was part of the painters' colony in Kortenhoef around the turn of the century. As a pupil of Victor Bauffe, she painted the lake landscape around this village and at Nieuwkoop in an impressionistic style. The painter had a simple wooden studio built on the Kortenhoefse Dijk for this purpose, from which she undertook sketching and painting tours. This would later be moved to the Moleneind, where it served as a studio for Harry Kuijten. In 1910 she moved to The Hague, where she painted beach scenes in addition to landscapes.
