Hendrika Landré-van der Kellen

A swag of roses
watercolour on paper 52.0 x 33.0 cm, signed l.r.

This work on paper was previously for sale.

Hendrika Landré-van der Kellen, like many female artists in the 19th century, specialized in painting still lifes of flowers, fruits and game. She was taught by George Gillis Haanen, a painter of landscapes, cityscapes and candle and lamplight scenes, who she therefore did not follow in his choice of subject. Van der Kellen lived for many years in her birthplace Utrecht and in the period 1875-1895 in Dordrecht. After that she settled in Amsterdam. For almost thirty years (1867-1894) she participated in exhibitions, often the (annual) Exhibition of Living Masters, held in Amsterdam, The Hague and Groningen, among others. The Westfries Museum in Hoorn owns her work.
