The Amsterdam painter Daan Bout was self-taught. He did, however, make study trips to the United States, Paris and London. His was betrayed a great predilection for the tough farm horse. He painted these animals in a broad technique, not focused on details, with a large brush or palette knife. He also painted beautiful North Holland landscapes and some still lifes and portraits. Daan Bout was also an excellent graphic artist.
