Literature: vgl.: Gerrit Luidinga, 'Johfra: Hoogste lichten en diepste schaduwen. Een kunstenaarsleven in woord en beeld 1919-1998', Utrecht, 2001, pag. 86, afb. 308 ('Het ontluiken').

Johfra was the founder of the artist group of 7 meta-realists. Johfra had a long-term relationship with Diana Vandenberg (The Hague 1923-1997), who also belonged to this group. Under the influence of 'Rozenkruisers' gatherings, the spiritually oriented Johfra and Diana immersed themselves in metaphysics, Gnosticism and Hermetics and created esoteric, visionary representations - painted extremely realistically - of things beyond ordinary consciousness.
