Paris was the favourite subject of the French painter Jules Ernest Renoux. He depicted the characteristic buildings, squares and streets of the French capital, the dynamic city life with traffic and pedestrians, but also the quiet places in his own way. Renoux used a lively palette and brush. Bright colours, a refined rendering of (sun)light and an almost fluid, impressionistic way of painting characterize his style.
