German painter of portraits, landscapes and genre scenes. Söhn was one of the painters who painted historical figures and interiors in the 19th century out of a romantic interest in the past. They often made a careful study of old furniture, interiors and clothes from different eras. In the Netherlands this genre was represented by H.F.C. ten Cate and H.E. Reyntjens.
