Marie Vlielander Hein was born in The Hague in 1871. Her drawing talent first manifested itself when she spent a year after high school in a boarding school in Paris, where she received professional painting and drawing lessons. Back in The Hague she continued these lessons with Cornelia van der Hart and Bernard Schregel. She lived alternately in The Hague, Putten and Rockanje. She also studied in Paris in 1912. Her main subjects were still lifes with flowers and fruits.
