The artist Paul Wunderlich, who comes from Germany, is counted among the Magic Realists. He studied at the Landeskunstschule in Hamburg and became acquainted with various art techniques there. He not only mastered painting and sculpture, but also etching and lithography. In the late 1950s he made figurative graphic work with an erotic undertone. Usually these works are inspired by photographs taken by photographer Karin Szekessy, who later became his wife. Wunderlich often painted twisted bodies with unnatural shapes. For this work, 'Joanna posing for Redfern', a nude photo was his source of inspiration. His work is included in well-known museum collections, including those of the MoMa in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
