Peter van Poppel belongs to the post-war generation of new realists that manifested themselves in the 1970s. The painter received his training in Utrecht, the city of surrealism, and this has not left him untouched. His paintings tell fantastic stories that transcend everyday reality. Central to his work are usually naive beings, who - uninhibited, innocent and invulnerable - represent the child in man. In addition, his paintings are populated by all kinds of objects, boxes, paintings and photos, which often refer to the work of other artists. He shows all this with humor and great attention to details.
