Although Hussem was searching throughout his career for a style that matched his ideas, he has always had a strong need for clarity and overview. From the 1960s, Hussem followed the rise of constructivism with its geometric structures. His formal language is becoming stricter and in the 1970s he undergoes his last style change when he focuses on the strict geometric abstract style. This composition is one of the last paintings Hussem made. He died in July of the same year. The austere forms fit his style at the time, although the expressiveness of his earlier years can be felt in the green line of paint.
