biography of Antoinette Agathe van Hoijtema

Antoinette van Hoijtema, great-niece of Theo van Hoijtema, belonged together with J.A. Zandleven and Jacob Nieweg to the painters who gathered in The Hague around art educator H.P. Bremmer. She was also taught by him and developed a pointillist technique under his influence. However, she was mainly self-taught. She preferred simple subjects, such as flowers and still lifes. Her hometown of The Hague and the many trips she made through Europe and Africa provided inspiration for landscapes and cityscapes. Museums: The Hague Municipal Museum and Museum Boymans-van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
