biography of Dirk Jan Hendrik Joosten

The Haarlem artist Dirk Joosten specialized in painting flower and fruit still lifes. His teacher was a student of Georgius (G.J.J.) van Os, descendant of a well-known family of artists and one of the most celebrated still life painters of the early 19th century. Joosten was also taught by Johannes Reekers, also a well-known painter of compositions with flowers, fruit and/or game. From 1841 to 1882 Joosten exhibited his work at the annual Exhibition of Living Masters. The Teylers Museum in Haarlem and the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam, among others, own work by this painter.
