biography of Louis Alphonse 'Abel' Lauvray

The French painter Abel Lauvray moved in Impressionist circles, but never became one of them because of self-imposed independence. He was friends with Renoir, Pissarro and Sisley, but the one who had the most influence on him was Claude Monet. At the age of 8, Lauvray first met the already established master when he came to Vétheuil for three years, the village where Lauvray lived almost all his life. Monet's friendship and artistic advice colored Lauvray's artistic development. The artist later took over Monet's famous studio boat. Lauvray mainly painted impressionistic landscapes. From 1930 to 1945 he rented a house in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, from where he made many painting trips
