biography of Carl 'Adolf' Schönnenbeck

A student of the famous Düsseldorf Academy (1887-1894), Adolf Schönnenbeck belonged to the late Düsseldorfer Malerschule, which was renowned for its landscape and genre painting well into the 20th century. The painter made a name for himself with impressionistic genre scenes, figures and portraits that are characterized by soft contours and increasingly lighter colours. He lived and worked in Düsseldorf from 1904, close to his buying public, and was a member of the artists' association 'Malkasten'.
