biography of Adolphe Baeyens

The Belgian painter Adolph Baeyens painted portraits and landscapes in fresh shades of green, yellow and brown. He received advice from Leon de Smet and Jean Delvin. Initially he worked in an impressionistic style, which would later change into a more pointillist, luminist method. Shortly after the First World War he spent some time in Leiden and the surrounding area, where he was part of the Belgian circle. The impressionist Albert Lefèbvre was also associated with this. The members were inspired by the coastal landscape and the bulb fields in the area around Noordwijk and Lisse and held an exhibition of their work in Noordwijk aan Zee at that time.
