biography of Arjen Galema

The Amsterdam painter Arjen Galema was a student of Georg Rueter, and was strongly influenced by Rueter’s lightly veiled impressionism. He painted landscapes, floral still lifes, characteristic portraits, figures and genre pieces. His figures usually present themselves as warm-tinted silhouettes without the precise elaboration of details. Galema traveled a lot to Spain and lived and worked in Paris between 1918 and 1925.
