biography of Adrienne Gertrude 'Attie' Dyserinck

The painter and feminist Attie Dyserinck was born in the Dutch East Indies, where her father was stationed as a naval officer. Back in the Netherlands, she attended the 'girl class' of the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. There she was allowed to teach herself for several years from 1899. In addition to painting, the artist was active as an organist and composed music for women's choirs. Attie Dyserinck was a niece of the feminist and journalist Welmoet Wijnaendts Francken-Dyserinck. She was a member of the Hague painters' association ODIS.
