This Brussels-born artist moved to Amsterdam at the age of 22, where she started training at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten (1887-1892) a year later. She was also taught by Marie Wandscheer, among others. Under the pseudonym 'Fanny Psicha', Marie Schweistal mainly painted flowers and still lifes in Impressionist style, traditionally the subjects for female artists in her time. In addition, there are also portraits and interior depictions by her.
