biography of Johannes Aurelius Richard 'Fedor' van Kregten

From the start of his career as an artist, the self-taught Fedor van Kregten had a pronounced preference for painting nature and landscapes. His first areas of work were Drenthe and Overijssel, after which he painted a lot in Twente. In addition to the vast Drenthe moors, landscapes with cows and calves were a favourite subject of the painter. He also liked to devote himself to plant and animal studies. Van Kregten was not a plein air painter. He usually worked out the sketches he made in nature in his studio. It is known that he led a rather withdrawn life, had few contacts with colleagues and was not a member of an artists' association. His many relocations and a family rich in children were probably the cause of this.
