Self-taught, Frits Goosen long drew and painted as a hobby alongside his job at the marine services company O. Hansen & Zn in Amsterdam, finally taking the plunge to become an independent artist in 1976. His oeuvre comprises polder landscapes, beach and harbour scenes, townscapes and ships, which he painted in a style both realistic and impressionistic. Goosen is an avid sailor himself and enthusiast of the bruine vloot traditional charter ships. Particularly his paintings of harbours and ships have won him a circle of admirers stretching from the Netherlands to England, Switzerland, Germany and the United States.
