Naples-born Gaetano Bocchetti mainly painted subjects that were characteristic of the area where he lived: picturesque bays and villages and extensive hilly landscapes. He also specialized in mythological scenes, portraits and figure representations. After his education at the art academy in Naples, he soon gained greater name recognition because he frequently took part in exhibitions in the south of Italy. His versatile oeuvre includes not only oil paintings and watercolours but also murals. As an artist he received a lot of appreciation during his lifetime and his work is still sought after by a large group of collectors.
