The erudite Geraldo Brender à Brandis was a student of the Rijksacademie when he left for a short time to the colony 'Walden' in Bussum. He then attended the academy in The Hague and settled in the Gooi region, first in Laren, then in Blaricum. He mainly painted still lifes in a bright-coloured and finely tuned colourite. His later still lifes stand out for their beautiful pearl grey tones and a very deliberate composition.
