The sculptor and goldsmith Gerard Bakker, originally from Apeldoorn, ‘hammers and drives metal plates, silver, copper and copper alloys’ into figures. One of his most famous works is the Fishermen’s Monument, which was erected in the name of the Scheveningen population and placed on the Scheveningen Strandweg, in memory of ‘all those who died in the sea’. The self-taught Bakker lives and works in a renovated monumental farm in Gouda and is married to the portrait painter Carla Rodenberg.
