biography of 'Hendrik' Jacobus Valk

Hendrik Valk was a painter of highly stylized landscapes and figures, illustrator and designer of stage sets. In W.W. II, most of his work was lost, with the exception of a few folders with drawings and preliminary studies. On that basis, he made a number of reconstructions in the 1960s. From 1926 he was head teacher of graphic and illustrative art at the Academy in Arnhem.
