The painter Henriëtte de Vries was born in 1867 in Amsterdam. After high school she attended The Rijksnormaalschool voor Teekenonderwijs (1883-1886) and then the painting class for women at the Rijksacademie under the direction of August Allebé. This brought her into contact with Wally Moes, with whom she became friends and from whom she received valuable advice. Jetty de Vries painted cityscapes, portraits and performances with figures, especially children. She also made book illustrations.
