biography of Jacobus Franciscus Wilhelmus 'Jacques' Slegers

Jacques Slegers was a very talented, versatile, sensitive and impetuous painter, sculptor, graphic artist and monumental artist, who gave shape to his ideas through various art forms. He not only made paintings, drawings and graphics, but also wall objects and paintings, mosaics, carpets, metal plastics and glass applications. After a short time at the academy in Tilburg - there was nothing more to learn according to his teacher Nico Molenkamp - he went to the National Higher Institute in Antwerp. He received a scholarship from the French government and studied in Paris. In Salzburg he studied for two summers with Oskar Kokoschka, who once complimented him on 'Excellent, you paint like a tiger!' Slegers worked in a figurative-later abstract-expressionist style; the people, the landscape and topics from current events inspired him.
