biography of Jan 'Johannes' Baptist Tetar van Elven

Jan Baptist Tetar van Elven was one of the Dutch Romantic painters who specialized in church interiors. He also painted cityscapes, genre scenes and portraits. Tetar van Elven received his education at the academies of Antwerp and Brussels. He then settled in Amsterdam, where he was appointed director of the drawing department of the Maatschappij tot Nut van het Algemeen.
