Born in 1858, Johanna van de Kasteele was a painter of flowers, fruit, still lifes and landscapes. She is known to have shown her work in the Exhibitions of Dutch Living Masters, which was unusual for a woman in those days. She was also a member of Kunstliefde, a drawing society in Utrecht. In 1894 she married Johannes Deodatus Waller, thereafter also signing her works ‘Waller van de Kasteele’.
