biography of Johannes Antonius Canta

Johannes Antonius Canta belonged to the small group of Dutch genre painters of the early 19th century. He preferred to paint domestic subjects and landscapes with mothers and children playing, sometimes with a religious twist. In addition, he devoted himself to painting portraits. Canta lived and worked almost all his life in Rotterdam. From 1833 he took part in the annual Tentoonstellingen van Levende Meesters.
