Jos Lussenburg is also known as the 'Zuiderzee painter'. The romanticism of the sea and the ports fascinated him and he mainly painted tough shockers and botters, fishermen and sailors. He only started painting at a later age but developed a striking style, both impressionistic and expressionistic, with bright colours and a free brush movement.
