biography of Klaus Baumgärtner

Klaus Baumgärtner is known for his subtle installations, photographs and collages. He was born in 1948 in Heidelberg, Germany and has worked in the Netherlands and France. For his installations he uses everyday things, utensils and what he finds in nature, such as twigs. He combines these 'found objects' into large or small installations or collages, creating a work of art. Characteristic is the loving way in which he treats and processes his material: he bends, cuts, saws and grinds. This gives the material extra meaning. In his collages too, he carefully combines elements until something new is created. Baumgärtner did not want his work to be associated with any particular art movement, his oeuvre is multifaceted and varied.
