biography of Leendert de Koningh

Leendert de Koningh, son of a Dordrecht wine buyer, showed early painting talent. Between 1801 and 1815 he lived alternately in the Netherlands and England and worked for some time in Paris. In 1815 the painter settled in Dordrecht for good. His early oeuvre mainly consists of sea and river views with ships. After 1815 he moved on to painting landscapes with cattle and shepherdesses or milkmaids, sometimes ice scenes. De Koningh taught his son Leonard and daughter Sophia de Koningh.
