Louis Zaalborn, or rather Loe Saalborn, was not only an actor and stage director, but also a well-known painter in his time. He was a friend of Theo van Doesburg, received advice from Piet Mondrian and was a student of Piet van Wijngaerdt. From 1910 onwards, Saalborn's work therefore showed points of contact with cubism, luminism, pointillism and expressionism. After 1930 he distanced himself from expressionism and preferred to paint figurative. Colors remained an important supporting element.
