Marcel Louis Baugniet is considered one of the most important avant-garde artists in Belgium. He painted, made collages and designed sets, posters, carpets, ceramics and furniture. In 1925 he discovered Russian Constructivism in Paris, of which he became one of the pioneers in Belgium. He also designed constructivist-inspired costumes for the ballets of his wife, the dancer Akarova. After 1945 he made almost exclusively collages and furniture designs.
